Scout Completes Eagle Project
David Hassell of Troop 66 Norwell has recently completed his project
requirements for Eagle Scout. David has built an outdoor prayer and reflection
area dedicated to Pope John Paul II at St. Christines in Marshfield. The
inspiration came from limited sitting space for reflection and prayer
on the grounds of the church. The area is a circle with a radius of 14
feet and four walkways leading to a birdbath in the center. This idea
was derived from the design of the Eucharist and the walkways resemble
a cross. The walkways are crushed stone with stepping-stones to walk on
and gardens grace the space in between them. There is also an angel that
sits on the birdbath in the center and four benches are placed for sitting
area on the outside of the circle. Each bench measures 4 feet long and
is composed of pressure treated 2 x 4’s, cedar 2 x 4’s and composite decking
on the top. Dave used mostly returnable cans and bottles that he collected
from family, friends, neighbors and fellow scouts for the funds of this
project. He is appreciative of the donation of wood for the benches by
Boston Cedar and Millwork in Holbrook and the donation of stepping-stones
from the Home Depot in Rockland. Also, Dave is very grateful to Old Oak
Landscaping for their donations of mulch and crushed stones. He would
also like to thank That Bloomin’ Place Too in Pembroke and St. Christines
for a donation of flowers to the project. Lastly, the time and effort
of his friends, family and fellow scouts in helping on the project were
immensely esteemed.
